Honda Recalls 336,468 CR

Honda Recalls 336,468 CR

This 2019 Honda CR-V recall seems petty, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the recall is due to 336,468 CR-V owner's manuals provide incorrect information about when the "Passenger Airbag Off" indicator should illuminate.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the regulations of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection.” All Honda CR-V owners need to do is take your new Honda CR-V owner's manual into a Honda dealer, and they will give you a sticker to put in your vehicles' owners manual. Problem solved.

What’s the problem?

If your front passenger does not correctly understand how the airbag functions, they may be at an increased risk of personal injury in the event of a crash. The reports say if your passenger is reviewing the owner’s guide information, they may misunderstand when the Passenger Airbag Off Indicator should be illuminated and become confused about the operation of the passenger airbag.

Seriously? How many passengers are going to pull out the CR-V owners manual and read how their passenger airbag indicator light should work. It’s just another silly government regulation that has to be met and wastes your tax dollars.

If your CR-V was built after September 18, 2019, it came with an owner’s guide properly describing the Passenger Airbag Off Indicator. The number of affected units built before that date is 336,468. That’s a lot of stickers that have to be printed.

On a more serious note, Honda is also recalling some 2019 Honda CR-V compact vehicles due to a faulty fuel tank joint weld. NHTSA says if the weld fails it could allow fuel to leak, increasing the risk of fire in the presence of an ignition source.

Subaru sent out this recall in September. And then in May, Honda also recalled 2019 CR-V models for a problem that could cause the driver-side airbag to deploy, possibly injuring the driver.

If your passenger is going to be reading how their airbag indicator light should work, Honda will provide a sticker with the correct information to be added to the owner's manual, free of charge of course. The recall is expected to begin on November 15, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is X6G.
